This song is a challenge to Christians to be a light sharing the Gospel. This one started as a chorus in 2020. I wrote down the phrase "be a light" and then underneath wrote echo this. On that entry in my song writing book, I wrote down some interval ideas I wanted to use. The chorus sat there, and at first, I was just going to publish it as a chorus in the children's book.
I was reading through Matthew, and when I came to Matthew chapter 5 verses 14 through 16, the idea of this song came back to my mind. I began thinking about how we are called to be light and share Christ. I looked up other verses on "light" and read 2 Corinthians chapter 4:3-7:
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
From these verses and the challenge of the Scriptures in my life came the words of this song. This anthem calls us to share Christ with this world around us!
